Le Martin-Pêcheur - Maison Abbeyfield Watermael-Boitsfort (Brussels)

"Le Martin-pêcheur", the latest Abbeyfield House in Belgium, has opened its doors on 1st June 2009.

The house is one of several new buildings of the Commune of Watermael-Boitsfort on a land owned by the Housing Management of Watermael-Boitsfort,
The asbl, a local non-profit organization, which was formed in April 7, 2009, rents the building from the Commune.

The new Abbeyfield house has 9 apartments plus a guest room. Each inhabitant has an apartment of about 47 m², including a living room with kitchenette, a bedroom, a bathroom and a cellar. Moreover the residents share common facilities (200m²) with a kitchen, a dining-room, a lounge, a laundry and a garden with a vegetable part. Residents share dinner together every day of the week.

The house is located near the shopping centre of Place Keym and has public transport facilities in the neighbourhood.
The house is self-managed by the local asbl of which all residents become co-members. The association was initiated and is still supported by volunteers.
